Hello and welcome to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado USA at around 5:30 a.m. I was very cold and really lacked clothes because I did not realize that this would be cold at an altitude of around 4,500 meters above sea level. I am here with the new Audi e-tron and the idea is that usually the people they drive and they race on Pikes Peak here we will be the opposite we will overthrow the reason because this is the first ever electric vehicle and we want to see how well the energy regeneration system, so we will roll and try and regain energy through braking put it back in the battery and hopefully when we go down through about 2,500 meters above a distance of about 30 kilometers we will be able to get back about 10 kilowatts of charge but we will wait. let’s find out okay so I’m behind the e-tron and we are on top of Pikes Peak ready to go on I lap this iPad basically is the show exactly what happened. I have our driver Victor.
Who is there to control the car and it will roll down the hill and what happens with the car will be shown here, so it will show how we recover the right energy and Victor let’s do it. so now we are rolling down the hill and I will try to explain how the system works so you can have a car in healing mode and what you do is you. basically just rolling but it slows you down a little because you’ve got regenerative braking to work but you don’t really do anything and you activate it by pulling the paddle on the steering wheel. if you want the braking regen to get worse, you pull the paddle again and it will give you a bigger recovery now what you can do if you will be a little too fast. because this is steep here you might need to use the brakes so then you apply the brake pedal and to some degree. The braking will only still use a recovery that strengthens it will not use hydraulic brakes but at that point. You need extra stop power that will then combine the normal brakes and the way the system works is that everything is damaged by the wire and no steps or changes to the pedal feel at all it just does everything naturally and works for you the idea is that it gives you maximum healing. regardless of the way you drive and it will always give you the feel of the good brake pedal you want so we will just reach the half point that we return 4.2 kilowatts tip 1 7 has been through cruise and 1.4 has been through this woman braking doesn’t seem to give time to throw to record something you can tell what happened here. yes so I check the brake temperature to make sure it’s below 300 degrees Fahrenheit if it doesn’t brake too hot and you have to stop and let them cool the temperature 58 degrees Fahrenheit so you do this usually every day.
Pikes Peak people get off you have to make sure their brakes are not too hot otherwise they will crash how often do you find someone with brake temperatures more than 300 degrees how many times a day really and how often do you see people with brake temperatures 50 degrees as I have seen 6465 which are usually as low. okay i will show you this now has nothing to do with roger’s skills all to sorry roger car is fine but, because we have done this we get a little prize in a bold way how little ease using brakes. Roger here will do something that would normally be very very stupid and brave but not so much in this case, so Roger will touch the disk brake now either Roger is made of asbestos or he hasn’t really used the brake much it’s cold let me try let me try it yes it’s really good and it just shows that actually it doesn’t use brakes at all. using a healing system but Roger it feels like driving a normal car with normal brakes feels like a normal car because I use a normal brake pedal and we don’t cure your hydraulic brake and so no heat comes to rest. basically losing energy isn’t that exactly and we put all the energy back into the battery Bravo a good job is right so i have upgraded to the business class seat so i will see what it looks like here in front we give a little review about actually in terms of comfort level seems enough nice. I have an air suspension, it looks like I have an air suspension, that’s pretty comfortable.
